The top-eight fall teams with the highest stock prices are invited to compete with the top-eight teams from the spring semester in the Challenge Bowl for a chance at scholarships. While the top prize is $1,000 for the team who wins the Challenge, each student will at least walk away with a $100 scholarship.

“We are proud of the hard work that Poplar and all of the other schools put in this fall semester for the High School Business Challenge,” said Webb Brown, executive director of the Montana Chamber Foundation. “One of the key components of our ten-year strategic plan, Envision 2026, is continuing to foster and promote the entrepreneurial spirit that is so prominent in Montana. This program is one way we are doing that.”

Two other teams were also awarded $100 scholarships for each team member during the fall semester. Because Team 14 from Poplar will compete in the Challenge Bowl, Team 10 from Capital High School in Helena had the second best stock gain going from $8.15 in quarter 4 to $124.95 in quarter 8 and team members earned scholarships. In the lottery drawing of teams with stock prices in the top 25 percent, Glacier High School in Kalispell was drawn.

“This semester was very competitive, as usual,” said Tim Alzheimer with the Montana Council on Economic Education. “Over the years it’s been pleasing for me to watch teams grow in their understanding of business over the semester. I believe most students don’t really realize they’re learning business fundamentals—they’re simply having fun competing.”
