2020-2021 MANUFACTURERS OF THE YEAR

2020 Manufacturer of the Year – TowHaul: TowHaul/Smith Equipment USA designs and manufactures custom heavy duty off-road trailers that decrease costs and increase mobility in open pit & surface mines around the world and is a market leader in trailers for the mining industry. The inherent dual purpose nature of their design (towing & hauling) is a product feature that sets them apart from the competition, but it’s their demonstrated 30-year ability to truly listen to and provide solutions for their customers that really helps them stand out.

2021 Innovator of the Year – Montana Instruments: Montana Instruments  is a partner in the MonArk Quantum Foundry led by MSU and the University of Arkansas. The foundry, which received a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation in September 2021, will create tools to accelerate the development of quantum materials and devices.  The company also collaborates with the MSU Department of Physics in the Quantum Information Science and Engineering Network (QISE-NET).

2021 Startup of the Year – Tuscano Machine: Tuscano Machine is a new machine shop in Big Timber specializing in custom precision machining and prototyping. One of the unique aspects of the shop is that it combines traditional, high-volume lathing and milling with leading-edge 3-D printing and other advanced additive manufacturing. The company’s vision includes a commitment to building parts in the US, specifically job creation in rural economies. Tuscano offers an apprenticeship program and sponsors vocation-education programs.

2021 Value Added Agriculture Manufacturer – Jeremiah Johnson Brewing Co: Jeremiah Johnson Brewing Company produces award-winning craft beers, using barley grown in the “Golden Triangle,” freshwater from the Missouri headwaters, and other locally sourced ingredients. Owners and Montana natives Jeremiah and Katie Johnson bought and rebranded an existing brewery in 2018 with the goal of growing a line of beers with clear ties to the state’s agriculture and heritage. In three years, the company has achieved tremendous growth, now producing 10,000 barrels of beer annually.
