Property tax issues were the number one issue during the 2025 legislative session. In an attempt to provide property tax relief for Montana homeowners, lawmakers passed legislation that affected the property taxes businesses pay

With 2025 property tax bills delivered, the debate is raging over the effectiveness of property tax legislation. With drafting errors in recently passed legislation and unintended consequences emerging, property tax is certain to be the top issue in the 2027 legislative session.

Another change to the Montana property tax code is coming in the fall of 2026. Impacts to Montana businesses are likely to be more dramatic.

How will legislators address remaining challenges with Montana’s property tax system? Who will see increased taxes so other taxpayers can have tax reductions? Will Montana business leaders be forced to pay higher property tax bills?

As the state’s largest and most influential business organization, the Montana Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the 2027 Legislative session and the threat the session poses to Montana businesses.

Over the next year, we will clearly define the property tax problem with unique research and analysis, scientific polling, expert testimony, data analysis and statewide business leader meetings.

Important in our strategy is building a grassroots network of business leaders across the state.  Capturing the stories of how property taxes are harming business success and threatening Montana’s economy is one of the most important tools we can have.

We need your story and your engagement.

The Montana Chamber needs your stories and your voice to connect with legislators and legislative candidates about the real impacts on your success.  While searching for solutions, we will also be defending your business against higher taxes.

Check the Montana Chamber of Commerce website and our newsletter for ongoing updates on the biggest business issue of our time: property taxes.
